Cairo, Egypt

7 April 2008

Cairo
We just got back from our a great vacation in Cairo, Egypt. This was one of the most expensive (not planned that way, just ended up happening) trips that we have ever been on (to include last year's cruise). But, with that said, it was one of the most interesting vacations and definately the most historical vacation we've been on, too! Unlike Rome, Egypt is not a place you can really tackle in a weekend (as we found out), but we realized that in the planning stages so we didn't try to do too much either.

We obviously went and saw the Giza Pyramids, but we didn't just see the Pyramids, we took a horse and camal ride to see the Pyramids. We enjoyed a Nile Dinner Cruise with Belly Dancers. We went to Sakkar to see the Step Pyramid and we did the Egyptian Museam. Those four events, plus soaking in the 80 degree weather, prior to coming back to snow...yes, snow in Germany. All and all a very good trip!

Be sure to check out the Travel pages for more adventures of the Motes Clan. We will have another break prior to the next travel time, which will be a quick trip to Garmisch for a Leader's Retreat and then on to the Summer Cruise.

Here we are mounted up in front of the Pyramids with the Sphinx between the camal and horses.

Here's a picture of Drew and Kerry riding horses in the desert.

Here's a picture of the Cheryl and Kaitlyn on a camal with our guide.

The Great Pyramids

Here's Kaitlyn and Drew playing on some rocks around the Pyramids.

While we were riding, Drew wanted to make sure his Horsey was doing okay...and kept asking him to make sure.

Here we are next to one of the Great Pyramids (the smallest one)

The following day we took a morning trip to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid...we were going to go to Memphis and then to Dahsur, but there was a bit of a sandstorm and we didn't want to put the kids through it.

Here's Drew and Kaitlyn next to some hieroglyphics in one of the tombs near the Step Pyramid. We were hijacked by a "guide" who took our camera and was taking pictures and kind of holding us hostage...but it turned out not to be that bad, since you weren't suppose to take pictures in the tomb areas.

The whole group as hostages.
